Help!

Hey guys (in general, but for the purposes of this note, specifically those of the male gender on my friends list)

I am currently in the process of moving somewhat suddenly from Irving to North Dallas. I am doing fine getting the stuff from my Old Mill apartment into the new apartment, but I also have to get my furniture into the new place after I drive it up from my parents' place in Austin. This is where the begging for a favor comes in. I need manpower (as my mom says, "brute force") to help get the furniture from the moving truck (we're renting a U-Haul) up to my apartment (which, cursedly, is on the third floor). I don't have a lot of furniture (a bed, a loveseat, potentially a desk, some bookshelves, and a couple of end tables), but its more than I can do by myself.

SO, if you are going to be in Dallas next Sunday, June 29, and do not have plans for that afternoon, AND are a kind guy willing to help a girl out, please comment or send me a message/email and I'll get you details on time and location.

Please note that I will be providing drinks (water and possibly soda, budget depending) as well as footing the bill for dinner after we're done moving stuff. Also, there's a strong possibility of some sort of housewarming gathering once I get settled and I will at that time provide food and alcohol.

And if you can't help move furniture but you're willing to help pack/unpack, shot me a message as well.

Much love in advance!

When I was 17...

(Ganked from warrick)

Ten things I would have told myself five years ago...
1. Cancer is scary, but it's not the end of the world. You'll survive and be stronger for it.
2. Don't be so hellbent on thinking you want/have to go to medical school. Grad school (someday) is equally valid and maybe a better choice.
3. Your faith will change a lot during your college years, but this is not a bad thing.
4. Something really bad, like unspeakably bad, is going to happen to you one of these days. I won't say avoid the situation because it's a defining event for you. But don't spend 2 yrs after it happens trying to forget that it did, you'll only hurt yourself.
5. He's your first love, but he's not your true love....don't be afraid to speak up when you realize it's not working. Dragging it out only hurts you both.
6. Take better care of your health, especially your senior year. I know, you think you're fine, but if you don't watch it, it's gonna bite you in the ass HARD in the middle of thesis crunch time.
7. You won't see it coming, at all, but when you fall hard for him (yeah, that other him), don't fight it...it's a good thing, he feels the same way. You guys will have to fight through hell, high water, and more (in fact are still dealing with the high water as I write this), but all signs point towards a happy ending if you just have the patience to take things as they come.
8. Be cautious about getting to close to one of your orientation peoples when you're an OL... she'll be bad news on soooo many levels.
9. Don't be so afraid to ask for help and accept it when it's offered. Save yourself a world of hurt and stress
10. You're going to explore a lot and have whole worlds opened up to you through a few friends you make...go with the flow, you're headed to good places within yourself.

And cuz I feel like it, another one yoinked from William....
Okay everyone. Interview me.
Post 5 questions as a comment to this entry.
I'll post the answers, you know the drill.
If you want to be interviewed, ask here.
I'll do my best to come up with some decent questions
Comments screened, so feel free to ask anything, and I mean ANYTHING.</lj>

Whoa..I hate when these things are so accurate, lol

You communicate well, and you connect with other people easily.
You are a naturally creative person. Ideas just flow from your mind.
A true chameleon, you are many things at different points in your life. You are very adaptable.

You are truly an original person. You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out.
Success comes rather easily for you... especially in business and academia.
Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You're a strong person.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.
You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong.
You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.
You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do.

You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life.
You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You're most comfortable when you're far away from home.
You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.
You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.
You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

What's Your Name's Hidden Meaning?

F-list update

Due to some remarks made anonymously by someone I have to assume is connected to my ex, I'm doing a massive friends list cut. I'm feeling very hurt and somewhat betrayed and feel that I need to protect myself and my space to write about the things on my mind, which at this time include the breakup.

If you get cut (meaning you can't see anything besides like this post and my "comment to be added" post pretty much), its nothing personal, its mostly me cutting my f-list back to only my most trusted friends. If you want to be re-added, comment on this entry and I probably will. I just really feel like I need to know that the people who are on my journal are not going to use my words against me or spread them around.

Research results: Effect of the implication of mental disorder on people's attitudes

Problem: Utilizing brief descriptive vignettes, the objective of this study was to investigate whether people’s attitudes towards an individual were affected by the implication of a mental disorder as compared to individuals presented without such an implication. A second dimension of this study examined whether having a mental disorder or knowing someone with a mental disorder affected attitudes towards those implied to suffer from mental disorder.

Method: A volunteer sample of 320 individuals completed an Internet survey in which they read one of six descriptions of an individual and were asked to rate the individual on 8 personality parameters. There were three pairs of descriptions, one for each symptom condition, each depicting either a male or female individual for each symptom condition. In one, the individual had no symptoms of mental disorder; in another, the individual had symptoms of depression; and in a third, the individual had symptoms of schizophrenia. The rating scales used were 7-step semantic differentials with the following word pairs: civil/hostile, unpredictable/reliable, careless/prudent, in control/unstable, harmless/dangerous, irresponsible/competent, crazy/sane, and calm/violent.

Results: ANOVA statistical analysis revealed that on all eight parameters, ratings by the full sample (with mental disorder, knowing someone with mental disorder, and neither having nor knowing someone with mental disorder) of the three symptom conditions differed significantly (p < 0.001). Post hoc analysis revealed that on seven of the eight parameters, ratings of the three symptom conditions were distinct from one another at the 0.05 significance level with the two mental disorder vignettes rated more negatively (depression was rated worse than the control and schizophrenia was rated worse than depression). In the second study, participants who self-identified as having a mental disorder rated the depressed and schizophrenic vignettes more positively on civility, reliability, stability, harmlessness, sanity, and calmness than did participants who did not self identify as having a mental disorder (p < 0.10). Participants who identified themselves as knowing someone with mental disorder rated the depressed and schizophrenic vignettes more positively on civility, stability, dangerousness, competence, and calmness than did participants who did not identify themselves as knowing someone with mental disorder(p < 0.10).

Conclusions: The importance of this study is that it illustrates the continued existence of negative attitudes towards individuals with mental disorders, particularly schizophrenia, despite efforts by the mental health movement to reduce stigma towards individuals with mental disorders. The second study shows that having a mental disorder or knowing someone with a mental disorder affects some attitudes towards those with mental disorder, but not all, a finding that suggests avenues for future research.

So for future reference, if you add me, go to this post and comment so I can add you and get you put on the appropriate filters, etc.

And now, back to getting school stuff together and tackling some homework, whee.

Happiness

I just did a quickie calculation based on my final time sheet for this pay period...before taxes my check should be around $885 (actually will probably be a little over that with shift differentials and such, but I didn't feel like doing all that math, hehe)

1. YOUR ROCK STAR NAME: (first pet and current street name)
Christy Hummingbird

2. YOUR MOVIE STAR NAME: (grandfather/grandmother on your father's side, your favorite candy)
JoAnn Reese

3. YOUR "FLY GIRL/GUY" NAME: (first initial of your first name, first two or three letters of your last name)
C-Cle

4. YOUR DETECTIVE NAME: (favorite animal, favorite color)
Kitty Green

5. YOUR SOAP OPERA NAME: (middle name, city where you were born)
Nicole Melbourne

6. YOUR STAR WARS NAME: (first three letters of your last name, last three letters of your mother's maiden name, first three letters of your pet's name)
Cle Sonmis

7. YOUR JEDI NAME: (your middle name spelled backwards, your mother's maiden name spelled backwards)
Elocin Nosdlanod (anyone wanna try to pronounce that one?)

8. YOUR PORN STAR NAME: (middle name, street you grew up on)
Nicole Dorsey

9. YOUR SUPERHERO NAME: ("The," your favorite color, the automobile you drive)
The Green Tribute

For this next meme, I got L from Shane. But first, the rules: List ten words that begin with that letter and explain what they mean to you. (If you want to play, ask me for a letter.)

1. Love-The most wonderful beautiful thing in the world. I don't know what I'd do/be without the love of my family and friends
2. Le français- The most beautiful language in the world, IMO. I thought about majoring in it, but how weird would a pre-med French major be?
3. Les Miserables- A beautiful novel that I aspire to be able to read in the original French someday; also one of my favorite musicals
4. Linz- my crazy spastic roommate for the past year (and hopefully next year as well). Never a dull moment when she's around
5. LASCATS- stands for Ladies Anarchist Sewing Circle and Terrorist Society, aka where I feed my yarn addiction during the school year, and the organization of which I was acting treasurer (of all fourteen cents) while Beth was in Rome
6. Lewis, C.S.- one of my favorite authors. I never get sick of the Narnia books and eventually I'll get around to reading the other books by him that I own
7. Le Louvre- A spiffy museum in Paris. I went to Paris my junior year of high school and we went to this museum our first day there. Guided tour sucked, but I saw enough to know that if I'm ever in Paris again I'm going to go back and wander around on my own.
8. LiveJournal- my not-so-secret addiction. I'm an icon whore, a meme sheep...this place is like crack
9. Life- to quote a spiffy song, "I love the crazy tragic, sometimes almost magic awful beautiful life." Seriously, the ups and downs can be kinda hard to put up with when you're not expecting them, but still, there's nothing better than a life well lived, and I strive every day to live my life to the fullest. "I'm gonna stop looking back and start moving on, learn how to face my fears. Love with all of my heart, make my mark, I wanna leave something here. Go out on a ledge without any net-That's what I'm gonna be about. Yeah, I wanna be running when the sand runs out"
10 "Lean On Me" - Great classic song that really sums up my thoughts on friendship. I always want to be the kind of friend that you know you can turn to when you need something. And I hope to have friends that are willing to return the favor :)

Shamelessly ganked frompoeticeroticone

He may not agree with all of this list, but I do, and I love it, so I'm gonna put it up for all the guys in my life who wanna know...oh, and by the way, yes my back is still hurt and still makes me feel like crying occasionally, so more than likely i'm sitting bored at my desk right now and will be for the forseeable future out of fear of moving and hurting more. Feel free to im me:)

1. Saying "I love you" immediately before, during, or following sex doesn't count.

2. Real men drive stick shift.

3. I will leave if you lie.

4. You are cute in raglan-sleeved T-shirts

5. I'm convinced I'm pregnant and obsess about it for a minimum of 24 to 48 hours before my period, even when I have no rational reason to think so.

6. I love it when you hug me from behind and whisper in my ear.

7. "Fine" is never an appropriate response when I ask you how I look.

8. Most of the time when I fantasize, it's about you.

9. I'm terrified of becoming my mother, even though I admire her.

10. I get turned on simply seeing that I have an e-mail from you.

11. I expect you to call me.

12. Only rock stars are allowed to wear leather pants.

13. I'm scared of losing my independence.

14. I'm more forgiving of you than I really should be.

15. Oral sex is your get-out-of-the-doghouse-free card. Manolo Blahnik shoes also do the trick.

16. You did something bad. I seem cool with it. I'm not.

17. If I'm not having sex with you, I'm... a. ...having a fat day. b. ...not feeling "connected" to you. c. ...blackmailing you to get something I want.

18. Shoes determine whether you're fashionable or not.

19. I own a Debbie Gibson CD, and I'm not afraid to use it.

20. When I compare my flabby tummy to a kangaroo pouch, say nothing.

21. A man I love plans the occasional fancy-schmancy dress-up date and impromptu weekend getaways, and he buys my favorite candy in advance when we're just going to the movies.

22. You look hot in hooded clothing items.

23. You should never tell me what to do. (Oooh you have no idea, this one applies to EVERYONE)

24. If I slept over, you owe me breakfast.

25. My breasts love much licking and sucking.

26. If you ask me out directly, I will say yes.

27. I'm very impressed when you ask for my advice.

28. I'm unimpressed with a man who doesn't take the lead.

29. When in doubt, go with the shirt that matches your eye color.

30. I want to be Madonna.

31. Women get urinary-tract infections easily, so watch (and wash) your fingers.

32. I'm in heaven when you hold my hand.

33. You're sexy when you're shaving, fixing things, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, driving, eating a peach, holding a baby.

34. I need to hear how you feel about me. Often. Tell me now.

35. Surprises, especially gifts for moi = more loving.

36. I want to be the best thing that ever happened to you--and for you to recognize this.

37. If I'm not feeling loved, I will start looking....

38. Discussion of ex-gf's and ex-bf's should be avoided at all times.

39. I like it when you tell me what you're thinking, even if you don't know yourself.

40. Celebrating our anniversary, even if it's only been a few months, earns major bonus points.

41. I love it when you're sweaty.

42. It's best to consult your gal pals for gift ideas.

43. A lady should always be greeted with kisses.

44. I like porn.

45. I love holding your bum in the palms of my hands.

46. Even nice girls like hushed dirty talk in public.

47. It's cheating as soon as you're doing something with her that you wouldn't want me to see, hear, read...

48. For the record: I'd rather you break up with me than cheat.

49. I remember everything about our relationship.

50. You should know all this and more with-out my telling you.
